Certification of toys

WHY TEST TOYS ANYWAY? You say that you are just starting your business, you don't even have an e-shop, you want to find out the interest of your target audience, so why test now?

Of course, you don't have to, but we'll give at least two arguments for us, why it's better to test prospectively:

  • because we won't take children's safety for granted,
  • because you never know where the information will come from (we know several cases of anonymous information on the ČOI and subsequent sanctions by the creator).

A small warning: If you think that you will solve the problem of non-certification of toys by calling your textile products a decoration, then a toy a didactic aid or even a montessori aid (this also came to us as a "tip"), then we will disappoint you. If something is intended for children to play with, it must be tested. Creative sets for children should also be properly tested. Of course also baby clips and teethers.

HOW THE TOY CERTIFICATION ITSELF TAKES PLACE

Everything is governed by the EN 71 Toy Safety standard .   It hides several "undergrounds" that need to be passed during testing:

  • EN 71-1: Mechanical and physical properties
  • EN 71-2: Flammabilityw
  • EN 71-3: Migration of certain elements
  • EN 71-9/10/11: Chemical properties.

The toy sample is subjected to tests to see if it contains prohibited substances, whether children can get injured (suffocate), how flammable the toy is, and much more. Here are some examples for your idea.

For example, with our magnetic maps, among other things, it was decided whether the magnetic foil used does not contain phthalates. Or in the case of textile toys, how long the string is (so that the child does not strangle), how the eye of the animal is sewn (so that the child does not bite it and suffocate) and much more is examined. For triangles (Pikler) and swings, the distance between the slats is again determined so that the child does not get pinched, his head does not get stuck, etc. For children's teethers made of components, it is checked whether there is a possibility of tearing. It is definitely not enough to make clips from certified components.
