What's new in plastics legislation? In the area of plastics for food contact, a new Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/1245 was approved last year. This applies primarily to manufacturers of packaging material: plastic films, cups, tubs, buckets, pet bottles, crates or boxes.
On September 23, 2020, COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2020/1245 of September 2, 2020, amending the provisions and correcting Regulation (EU) No. 2020/2020 entered into force. 10/2011 on materials and articles made of plastics intended for contact with foodstuffs.
Even though there is a transition period, products that do not meet this stricter standard cannot be placed on the market from 23.3.2021. According to the old rules, products can only be tolerated on the market until stocks run out. This Regulation significantly changes the scope of the assessment of the migration of elements and primary aromatic amines and the method of assessment of products for repeated use.
